New summer rounders leagues are coming to Dorchester and Sherborne.

West Dorset District Council has been awarded funding from Rounders England to help set up the leagues to encourage people to take up the sport. 

Leagues have been set up at Dorchester Rugby Club and the district council-run Gryphon Sports Centre.

Cllr Mary Penfold, West Dorset District Council’s Enabling Portfolio Holder, said: “We want teams and individuals to sign up to these leagues. The rounders leagues are for anyone that wants to enjoy a social, fun and friendly game whilst staying active.”

The games at Dorchester Rugby Club will run between 6pm and 8pm on Tuesday evenings by the district council’s Sports Development staff. The league will start on Tuesday 7 June with each game lasting around 30 minutes. 

A short introduction session will take place on 7 June from 5.30pm to 6pm and the first league game will start around 6pm.

Team are invited to enter the league by sending in a registration form plus the £15 league entry fee, entries close on Wednesday 1 June. There are limited spaces available and teams will be contacted to confirm their entry. There will be a weekly team fee of £10.

The Gryphon Sports Centre’s rounders games will be held on Wednesday evenings between 6.30pm and 8.30pm by sports centre staff. The league will start on 8 June with each game lasting around 30 minutes.

A short introduction session will take place on Wednesday 8 June from 6pm-6.30pm and first league game will start around 6.30pm.

Teams (minimum of 6, maximum of 15) are invited to enter the league by completing the registration form available on dorsetforyou.com/gryphon-sports-centre or on request from [email protected] and paying the £10 league entry fee. Entries close on Friday 27 May. There is a weekly team match fee of £8.
