Featuring a wide array of food, music and entertainment September’s much-anticipated Metropole Market welcomed thousands of visitors, many in costume, for its latest Steampunk themed event.

September’s Steampunk themed Metropole Market has welcomed thousands of market-goers – with hundreds turning up in futuristic Victorian-inspired steam-punk costumes. Flocking to Lansdowne, visitors enjoyed a unique event featuring vibrant and eclectic live music and lively entertainment.

A star attraction was HMS Sultan’s Super Sentinel Steam Wagon. Taking centre stage the genuine 86-year old Royal Navy steam engine was a big favourite with market-goers of all ages. Capturing the imagination of the crowds, the market’s entertainment included the unusually brilliant bands Plastic Jeezus, Mother Ukers and Tuba Libres.

Visitors could also enjoy browsing through 70 stalls, selling a diverse range of local goods. These included vintage clothing, plus local arts and crafts. Furthermore, an abundance of delicious food stalls featured everything from delightful hand-made cakes, award-winning pies and locally-produced artisan cheeses to cuisines from across the globe.

Vicci Johnson, Owner of local business Dark Side of the Mirror, said:

“I love the Metropole Market. It’s so good for Lansdowne. It brings a whole new customer base to the area and lets them know about the innovative, independent businesses that are based here. We really enjoy being part of it – there’s always such a great atmosphere, friendly and good humoured. It’s wonderful.”

Lyn Turnbull, Co-Organiser of Metropole Market and Co-Owner of Mexigo Burrito Bar on Holdenhurst Road, said:

“We are delighted at the response to our Steampunk themed Metropole Market – people really took our out of the ordinary theme to their hearts, enhancing the event by dressing up in their best costumes. Both locals and visitors to Bournemouth can now look forward to our next Day of the Dead inspired Metropole Market, which will be a celebration of life, death and the marvellous Mexican culture!”

Metropole Market will return to Holdenhurst Road, Lansdowne on Sunday 28th October from 11.00am – 5.00pm. By popular request, it will include a ‘Day of the Dead’ theme. Funded by the Town Centre Bid, it will provide another opportunity to attract more visitors to the Lansdowne area of Bournemouth and showcase the excellence of its vast array of local retailers, bars and restaurants.
