An inspiring story from Global Positive News:
Heman Bekele’s journey is truly inspiring. Originally from Ethiopia, he was deeply moved by the sight of people working tirelessly under the scorching sun. This early exposure to the harsh conditions motivated him, even at a young age, to find ways to make a positive difference.
As a middle-school student, Heman channeled his passion into developing a soap designed to aid in the treatment of skin cancer. His innovative soap includes compounds that work by reactivating dendritic cells, which play a crucial role in guarding the skin and combating cancer cells.
Heman’s groundbreaking work did not go unnoticed. He earned recognition and a $25,000 prize from 3M and Discovery Education as part of their Young Scientist Challenge. His efforts also led to him being named TIME’s Kid of the Year for 2024. Reflecting on his achievement, Heman expressed his excitement about the potential impact of his creation, saying, “It’s absolutely incredible to think that one day my bar of soap will be able to make a direct impact on somebody else’s life. That’s the reason I started this all in the first place.”
Now 15 years old, Heman continues to pursue his dream, dedicating his time to working in a lab at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. His commitment to making a difference and his innovative approach have set him on a path to potentially change lives through his work.
