Touring Exhibition at
DURLSTON CASTLE, SWANAGE
Printmaker Anita Reynolds is touring a selection acclaimed prints from her epic South West Coast Path walk to venues in Devon and Dorset this spring. This special exhibition tour, titled ‘Outline South West Part 2’, is organised by Devon Guild of Craftsmen in partnership with touring organisations Villages in Action in Devon and Artsreach in Dorset.
Anita Reynolds, a Devon Guild of Craftsmen Member, walked the 630 mile South West Coast Path from Minehead to Poole throughout 2012, 2013 and 2014, expressing her response to this world famous and inspirational landscape by producing a drypoint print plate each day. This new exhibition will feature the final thirty daily prints from the south coast and some larger works created throughout the project, alongside sketchbooks, photographs, maps and educational material.
Walking the southernmost section of the coast path also given Anita the opportunity to collaborate with four artists based in the region: Carol Timms (feltmaker), Richard Povall (sound artist), Philippa de Burlet (ceramicist) and Caroline Parrott (aluminium artist and jewellery maker). Anita met with each artist in July 2014 to walk along the coast path sharing ideas, models of practice and to plan their work together, and each artist has created a piece of work to feature in this exhibition, which will be on display at Durlston Country Park in Swanage from the 2-19 March, open 10:30am-4pm daily. All works are available for purchase.
“The Fine Foundation Gallery at Durlston is an ideal setting for the exhibition and we hope everyone will be inspired to go and walk some of the Coast Path afterwards!” said Anita.
While the exhibition is at Durlston Castle, Swanage, there is also the opportunity to take part in a variety of workshops being led by Anita and the associated artists. Try your hand at sound recording in the landscape at the Kingcombe Centre, Toller Porcorum, accompanied by a ranger from the Dorset Wildlife Trust. At Durlston Castle you can try hand printing and creating beautiful jewellery, mixing natural dyes and creating stunning felted wall hangings, or follow in Anita’s footsteps, designing and producing a series of prints inspired by a walk in the landscape. Why not join one of these workshops to make a gift for a loved one on Mother’s Day, or buy a workshop place as a gift. Full details about the exhibition and workshops, which are supported by Dorset County County, can be found by visiting www.artsreach.co.uk
