74 year old man hands himself in following racist incident in Bridport

Following enquiries into an alleged racially aggravated abuse of a football player at a match in Bridport a man has attended a voluntary interview.

The incident occurred during the second half of a match between the reserve teams for Bridport FC and Gillingham Town FC at St Mary’s Field in Skilling Road on Saturday 9 October 2021. 

It was reported that a player for Gillingham Town FC was racially abused by a member of the public watching the match. The referee intervened, before the member of public was asked to leave the ground.

Following enquiries, a 74-year-old local man, has attended a voluntary interview. No arrest has been made and an investigation is ongoing.
