The Metropolitan Police have disclosed that over the past five months, more than 500 crimes related to the theft and vandalism of ULEZ cameras have occurred. Within the period from April 1st to August 31st of this year, a total of 510 offenses were documented. These encompassed 159 instances of camera theft and 351 cases of camera damage. It’s worth noting that a single crime may involve multiple offenses. Notably, the number of such crimes has nearly doubled over the past month, as of August 1st, when the Metropolitan Police had recorded 288 offenses.

Ironically, a policy that the Tories designed and planned for is now being turned into a political football by those same far right advocates.

This surge in criminal activity coincides with the recent expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) to encompass the entirety of Greater London. Consequently, vehicles that fail to meet the required emissions standards are now obligated to pay a daily fee of £12.50 in order to operate within the capital city. This predominantly affects most petrol cars manufactured before January 2006 and diesel cars made prior to September 2015.

These alarming statistics have come to light following an investigation that uncovered fraudulent activity involving counterfeit ULEZ certification. These counterfeit certificates were being advertised on various social media platforms such as Facebook Marketplace, TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, and WhatsApp, falsely claiming to render vehicles “ULEZ exempt.”

The suspicion is that climate deniers who ‘hate the planet and other people’ are behind the vandalism and the scam and would prefer to believe propagandists over the science.

These same people made up of mostly sociopaths and psychopaths are being allowed to get away with literal murder. This has to stop.

Earlier this year, the police initiated an operation targeting a group self-identifying as “blade runners,” emphasising their commitment to addressing criminal conduct related to ULEZ violations. In a statement, the Metropolitan Police expressed their unwavering dedication to combating ULEZ-related criminality, committing substantial resources to their operation. Local investigators are actively pursuing leads through a variety of investigative techniques, including CCTV analysis, witness interviews, and forensic examination.

Up to this point, two individuals have been apprehended in connection with these crimes. One individual has been charged and is awaiting trial on bail, while the Crown Prosecution Service has decided not to proceed with the other case. The Metropolitan Police also noted that they are diligently monitoring anti-ULEZ protests, as they do with all potential public order issues, with certain events drawing crowds ranging from 200 to 300 participants.
