GB News presenters implode when faced with their own partiality

This is wonderful. Moronic far-right presenters get it up them and self combust. Come on, OFCOM, stick them in the trash and save democracy.

A short history of GB Spews:

The right-wing news and current affairs channel GB News, despite being on the air for just two years, has found itself embroiled in several controversies. These incidents have garnered as much attention as the news the channel reports.

Despite reporting a £30 million loss in its inaugural year, GB News has somehow significantly expanded its viewership, boasting 3.44 million monthly viewers as of June 2023, though it lags way behind Sky Sports News, Sky News, and BBC News.

The channel’s journey to compete with major news outlets in the country has been marked by ongoing challenges, with four new Ofcom investigations launched this month alone.

As GB News enters its third year of broadcasting, let’s take a look back at its history and the major controversies it has faced:

Presenters Who Quit GB News: GB News faced early setbacks when it launched in June 2021. Guto Harri, a former BBC veteran who joined GB News to co-host a weekly news and discussion show, resigned within a month after taking a knee on air in support of the England football team’s anti-racism gesture. GB News suspended Harri for not upholding the station’s editorial standards, and he later resigned, describing the channel as an “absurd parody” of cancel culture in the Sunday Times.

Andrew Neil, the channel’s most prominent presenter and chairman, who was poached from the BBC, left GB News just three months after its launch, citing creative differences. Neil had presented only eight shows for the channel before his departure. Several other newsreaders, including Simon McCoy, another BBC alumnus, and Mark Steyn, a radio and TV presenter, also left the channel for various reasons, including controversies related to their coverage of the Covid pandemic.

Controversies Involving GB News: Within its first two years, GB News faced over 4,500 complaints from its audience and was investigated by Ofcom multiple times. In its inaugural year, Ofcom launched five investigations into the channel. One episode of “Tonight Live,” where host Dan Wootton criticised pandemic lockdown extensions, received over 370 complaints, although Ofcom did not investigate further, citing freedom of expression.

Ofcom found GB News in breach of its license on three occasions since its launch but did not impose sanctions like fines or demand on-air clarifications or apologies.

Recently, Ofcom initiated four new investigations into the channel, focusing on potential breaches of impartiality rules in episodes hosted by Conservative MPs Lee Anderson, Jacob Rees-Mogg, Philip Davies, and Esther McVey, as well as an episode of Laurence Fox’s show hosted by former Brexit Party MEP Martin Daubney.

GB News is currently embroiled in a major scandal surrounding the conduct of former Sun journalist Dan Wootton, who is now one of the channel’s star presenters. Allegations published by the Byline Times claim that Wootton created fake online profiles to deceive men into sending him explicit photos, paid adult film actors to secretly film themselves with men Wootton interacted with online, and oversaw a culture of sexual harassment during his time at The Sun. Wootton has denied all these allegations, labeling them as false and the result of a smear campaign by a “hard left blog.” The Metropolitan Police are assessing the information to determine whether any criminal activity has occurred, although no formal police investigation into Wootton is currently underway.

It is called GB Spews for a reason. It is like the morning after when one is experiencing severe alcohol poisoning.
