Officers investigating an incident where a man was reportedly bitten by a dog in Weymouth are appealing for information.

It was reported that at around 10.30am on Thursday 5 October 2023 a man was walking along the small path that connects Upwey Train Station to Bridlebank Way when he was bitten by a dog.

The man sustained injuries to his right forearm and right leg and attended hospital for treatment. The injuries required treatment, but they are not believed to be serious.

It was reported that the woman who was with the dog argued with the victim before leaving the scene with the animal shortly after the incident. She did not leave her details.

The woman is described as aged in her 50s, five feet 10 inches tall with long blonde hair. She was wearing a white and blue horizontal striped top, blue jeans, and grey shoes with white soles.

The dog is described as medium-size with long, shaggy white hair and wearing an orange harness.

Police Constable David Hamilton, of Dorset Police, said: “This was understandably a distressing incident for the victim and we hope he makes a full recovery from his injuries.

“We are conducting enquiries into this matter. We are keen to speak to the woman who owned the dog so we can take her account of what happened.

“I would urge anyone with information relating to her identity or any witnesses to the incident to please come forward. I would also ask the woman to please do the right thing and come forward if she reads this appeal.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55230158118. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
