Officers investigating a theft in Weymouth town centre are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

It is reported that at around 6.30pm on Wednesday 11 October 2023, the victim – a man aged in his 60s of no fixed abode – was talking to a man who he believed to be homeless on a raised platform at Custom House Quay.

The victim got his wallet out of his pocket when someone ran past and snatched the wallet, before running in the direction of the Town Bridge.

Police Constable Robert Coram, of Weymouth police, said: “There would have been a number of people in the area at the time and I would ask anyone who saw what happened to please get in touch.

“In particular, I am keen to hear from the man who the victim was speaking to when the incident occurred as they may have important information to help my enquiries. He is described as carrying a dark-coloured rucksack with a sleeping bag rolled on top.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk/contact or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55230161699. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
