They say that the Forth Bridge is constantly being painted; when the painting is finished, it is time to start again. This is thanks to the work of Robert ‘Auld Rab’, McKenzie, who, for the last 50 years, has spent at least 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, hanging precariously above the Firth of Forth, making sure that our iconic bridge is protected from the elements.
Rumours are that during August, when all the cruise ships sail in for the Edinburgh Festival, he used to wait until the ships were directly below before ‘coiling one out’, much to the annoyance of those unfortunate enough to be hit by one of his turds.
