Dr Kevan Manwaring, MA Creative Writing Course Leader at Arts University Bournemouth (AUB), is offering an entertaining guided tour of Dorset’s literary landscape from the comforts of the Dorset Museum in Dorchester on Wednesday 27 November.

In this talk, writer and academic, Dr Manwaring, will offer both an overview of the area and its famous writers to the unfamiliar, and insights and surprises to those already acquainted.

‘Dorset is a county as rich in literary heritage as it is in natural beauty’ Dr Manwaring says ‘The distinctive rounded hills, verdant vales, hollow ways, and rugged coastline have inspired writers for centuries, and have provided resonant settings for some of the finest writing in the English language.

Dr Manwaring will be drawing upon his extensive field research, photographs and archive material in this well-illustrated event to discuss sites around the county associated with famous writers as well as discussing the thriving creative ecology of present-day Dorset.

‘Thomas Hardy, Jane Austen, John Fowles, and Tracy Chevalier are only some of the great writers whose work has both drawn upon Dorset and has become associated with its landscapes and landmarks.

‘It’s an honour to be hosting this event at the wonderfully historic Dorset Museum which holds the world’s largest collection relating to Thomas Hardy – one of the most important writers of the 19th century.’

Tickets are £5 for students, £8 for Dorset Museum Members, or £10 for non-members and can all be booked via www.dorsetmuseum.org
