Boscombe’s Sovereign Shopping Centre is hosting an event in conjunction with Dorset Police in an effort to raise awareness and help reduce car crime in the local area.

The informal and interactive event will feature a vehicle on display within the Sovereign Centre, which will include valuable items that members of the public will be asked to spot and identify. The purpose of the event is to educate the public about vehicle crime following an increase in the number of car thefts earlier this year in the Boscombe and Poole area. Motorists are being reminded to keep their vehicles securely locked and to avoid leaving valuables in their cars.

The number of thefts from vehicles in Poole between 1st April and 31st July increased from 248 last year to 314 this year. A total of 140 thefts from vehicles took place inPoolelast month alone. The number of these offences in Boscombe increased from 60 between 1st April and 31st July last year to 102 during the same period this year.

The team from Dorset Police will be at the Sovereign Centre on Saturday 29th September between10am and 4pm. The event is being hosted ahead of a new series of regular events being held at the Sovereign Centre, aimed at all ages of the community. The events include a monthlyBand Day, Sovereign Senior’s Day and Family Day.

Ray McGlynn, Sovereign Shopping Centre Manager, said: “We are very excited about the new program of events for the local community and visitors to the area to enjoy. We are looking forward to bringing all ages of the community together and having lots of fun, while raising awareness of particular issues and providing advice.”
