The elections for the new position of Police & Crime Commissioner for Dorset will take place on Thursday 15 November.

An advertising campaign raising awareness of the elections is running on television and a booklet will be posted to every household in the country explaining what the Police & Crime Commissioner (PCC) will do and how you can vote.

The booklets will start to be delivered on Monday 22 October.

The candidates standing in the election will be announced on Monday 29 October and you will be able to find out about them by going on the website www.choosemypcc.org.uk after that date.

To vote for the PCC in Dorset you must be registered to vote. You can do this by contacting your District or Borough Council up to Wednesday 31 October. If you have already registered to vote this year then you do not need to do anything until election day.

The ballot paper for this election will be slightly different from previous ballots because you will be asked to vote for a first choice candidate and a second choice candidate. More information about this can be found on the Electoral Commission’s website www.aboutmyvote.co.u

As well as casting your vote at the ballot box on 15 November you can also request a postal vote or a proxy vote if you can’t get to the polling station. Postal vote applications must be made to the District or Borough Council by Wednesday 31 October and for a proxy vote by Wednesday 7 November.
