The first POETRY CORNER on Monday November 19th, set in the salubrious surroundings of Hotel Mirimar, once favoured by Tolkien (he of Lord of the Rings fame) and hosted by the Hotels Poet in Resident – Steve Biddle, Bournemouth’s Grand Slam Poetry Champion 2012 proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining evening.
Suzy Wheeler of Strawberry Fields Represents ensured patrons were able to view a selection of Art set on Easels in and around the performance area, which included a print of “Midsummer” by Albert Moore and an oil painting of “George the Penguin” at a tube station by local artist Adrian Hamilton.
Hotel Mirimar welcomed those attending and performing with a complimentary glass of Bucks Fizz and comfortable seating in an atmospherically lit lounge complete with performance corner.
We were treated to a wide range of poetic styles from Peter John Cooper (local playwright and author), Paul Harris (new to the area from London), along with members of the Freeway Circle of Poets in the form of romantic poetess – Carrie Wilde, emotive Jane Cartwright and the gritty, youthful Rianna-Jane.
Musical entertainment came from well seasoned Polly Morris who sings her humorous poetry to a guitar accompaniment, Rachel Muller – Editor at Park Culture Magazine and Miss Annie Christopher singing acapella. The evening was closed by Chris Woodford who treated us to a stunning performance on 12 string guitar.
Why not come along and taste this experience for your self at the next Poetry Corner in January?
