Dorset’s Police and Crime Commissioner Martyn Underhill is one of two PCC’s across the country, chosen to showcase his vision for Dorset at a key Victim Support meeting in London.

Martyn Underhill and Wiltshire PCC Angus Macpherson have been invited to speak at a Board of Trustees meeting in Canary Wharf on Thursday 31st January.

Martyn said “I am delighted to have this opportunity to meet with the charity’s Board of Trustees to discuss how we can work together to ensure that victims of crime in Dorset have the best possible care. The needs of victims are central to my Police and Crime Plan which will be put before the Police and Crime Panel for review in early February.”

The Trustees have invited Mr Underhill to talk about:

  1. His vision of the local commissioning of victim services
  2. His vision and priorities for victim services inDorset
  3. The type of outcomes Mr Underhill will be looking for from providers
  4. How Mr Underhill plans to work with PCC peers regionally and nationally to deliver his vision
  5. What Mr Underhill wants to see from Victim Support and the sector more widely to ensure victims get help in their local communities.

A spokesperson from Victim Support says “We chose Martyn Underhill as he is one of the leading independent PCCs and someone who has publicly committed to putting victims first; we want to understand better how Martyn intends to bring these commitments to life and how Victim Support and its partners in the sector can work with him to do so”.

Mr Underhill has also pledged to hold Victim Forums, to represent the views of victims across Dorset.

Mr Underhill said “This is an important meeting. I want to make sure that Victim Support is able to offer the best possible service to victims of crime in our county. It is crucial that they are protected and feel safe”.

Victim Support gives free and confidential help to victims of crimes, including burglary, assaults, sex offences and domestic violence.
