Dorset Wildlife Trust is getting ready for spring with its Green Fayre and Nest Box event in Verwood this month. The free family event, in aid of Verwood’s Wildlife Sensory Garden, takes place just in time for the start of the bird nesting season and includes nest box building to help you welcome birds in your own garden.

The Green Fayre and Nest Box event is being hosted at the Verwood Opportunity Centre, which provides day care opportunities for adults with disabilities. They arekeen volunteers for wildlife, working with Dorset Wildlife Trust on a wide range of tasks to improve habitats, including the Wildlife Sensory Garden next door. As well as freenest box building, there will be children’s games & wildlife activities plus wildlife advice for your garden and the chance to buy homemade cakes made by the Verwood Opportunity Centre.

Noel Bergin, Conservation Officer at Dorset Wildlife Trust, said: “The birds are already singing and insects are getting active so now is the time to think about getting your garden ready for wildlife. We have lots of ideas and advice if you want to get wildlife friendly and, with our crafts and cakes stalls and kids’ activities, the whole family can join in. Come and shake off winter and celebrate the start of spring with us!”

The Green Fayre and Nest Box event is on Tuesday 19th February from 10am to 3pm at Verwood Opportunity Centre, Brock Way,BH31 7QE. Money raised on the day will be used to buy wildlife friendly plants for local schoolchildren to plant at the Wildlife Sensory Garden. The garden, in the grounds of the Verwood Hub, was created in 2009.
