King’s Park Alternative Sports Club requires new recruits!
Join their fun sports sessions and help with projects to raise money for local organisations.

The King’s Park Alternative Sports Club is a free sports and games club for over 18’s situated in Boscombe, Bournemouth who meet every Sunday from 1pm to participate in a variety of unusual and not–so unusual (but always fun) sports activities. The club is a registered non-profit charity funded by voluntary donations and grants.

They are looking to boost weekly membership numbers in order to participate in two summer team events – the Ferndown Pram Race, 29th June; and the annual RNLI Raft Race, 28th July at Mudeford near Christchurch.

With the help of new volunteers the club aims to build two unique prams to enter the Ferndown Pram Race. Teams push fellow member in their homebuilt pram along a road course, racing against a variety of competitors to raise money for the local King George V playing fields and the John Thornton Foundation.

Following that, King’s Park Alternative Sports Club will work together to build a raft to enter the annual RNLI Raft Race. Teams race down the Mudeford run in a themed homemade raft, with all proceeds going towards essential local lifeboat services.

The clubs current roster of weekly activities include well-known sports such as dodgeball and hockey, plus a selection of fun and unique games the club have invented themselves; including Combi-ball (a combination of netball and football), and Space Hopper polo (played like normal polo, except on space hoppers).

The activities are aimed to give adults a chance to exercise, as well as have fun and make new friends in the process. Club founders Dave Hann and Pete Reed claim “we invented King’s Park Alternative Sports Club as an excuse for adults of all ages to run around like kids, playing silly games and sports like we used to do at school”.

Volunteers wishing to sign up to The King’s Park Alternative Sports Club should simply turn up to their Sunday session, or email Dave Hann at: [email protected]
