Police and Crime Commissioner Martyn Underhill has officially appointed Mrs Helene Bowman-Brown as his PCC Advocate for the Boscombe area.

Mrs Bowman-Brown, aged 46 years, has been a resident of Boscombe for 24 years. Helene set up a web design business Gazelle Design in 1997, which has been based in Boscombe for just over 5 years. In 2009, Helene became Chair of the ‘Friends of Roumelia Lane’ Community Group.

Mrs Bowman-Brown will provide support to Mr Underhill as Dorset’s elected Police and Crime Commissioner by working on community issues and will help the PCC to drive ideas forward. This is an unpaid voluntary role.

Mr Underhill said: “Helene is a committed resident of Boscombe and will play a pivotal role in helping to cut crime and antisocial behaviour. Helene’s role is to act as my eyes and ears and to support my work in Boscombe. I have every confidence in Helene that she will rise to the challenge.”

Mrs Bowman-Brown said: “I thoroughly understand the multiple issues that exist in Boscombe. By working with PCC Martyn Underhill and Dorset Police, I want to encourage members of the community to engage with the Force, and help them to cut crime. I am excited at the opportunity to support Mr Underhill’s vision of making Boscombe a place where people feel safe in their homes and in their communities.”

As Martyn Underhill’s appointed Advocate for Boscombe, Helene Bowman-Brown will represent the PCC at community meetings and will work with key local partners, stakeholders and members of the public.

Mr Underhill added: “I cannot be everywhere all of the time. Community issues are complex multi-agency challenges that need a lot of work. That is why I have created a PCC advocate role for Boscombe, which will allow a person well connected with the issues to help me to drive things forward in that area.”
