Weymouth College is taking part in Vocational Qualifications Day (VQ) on Wednesday 5th June by celebrating the vocational achievement of its students with visual displays, volleyball and live music for students in College Square. VQ Day aims to promote stories from students and their successes.
Outdoor Education Apprentice and ‘Local Hero’ Harry Williams is able to do what he loves, every day. During his time at College, Harry has gained the dinghy instructor in sailing qualification and powerboat level 2 certificates. This allows him to lead sailing sessions for Weymouth College. During his apprenticeship he has also gained his BCU level 1 kayak instructor qualification as well as his CTC trail leader mountain bike award.
Mature student George Linley-Munro is studying Construction Multi-Skills. He is currently renovating a yacht on his course, which was donated to the College in December, ready for Outdoor Education to sail this summer. George likes the fact College gives everyone the chance to learn. The best piece of advice he has been given is to: “Be yourself and never give in.”
Howisha Charlery is studying BTEC Sport Level 3 and is enjoying her time at College. She said: The best thing about College is you get to be your own independent individual. My favourite thing about my course is I’m always learning new techniques and practises in Sport.”
BTEC Health and Social Care Level 3 student Bryony Bratchell is off to university in September to study Psychology after being inspired and involved with ‘Rethink’ mental health charity during her time at College. Bryony was nominated to be their ‘young spokesperson’ and presented in front of Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg last summer.
