Four green sea turtles at Weymouth Sea Life Adventure Park have been treated to an early Christmas dinner by aquarists this week. Ali, Josie, Gumbo and Sharky are all disabled after being involved in boating accidents and are fitted with weights in their shells to aid buoyancy.
Feeding time in the Park’s ocean tunnel takes place twice a day when visitors can witness the magnificent giants glide around their tank enjoying a range of cabbage, squid filled with a herb gel supplement, and this week – Brussel sprouts!
Aquarist Lauren Timson and displays supervisor Kico Iraola didn’t want the turtles to feel left out when it came to the festivities happening across the Park and thought they would enjoy the sprouts.
And that, they did! Lauren said: “The turtles we have are quite young still so enjoy a mixed diet of greens and squid typically. Brussel sprouts are great to add a bit of variety to their feeds and they’ve really enjoyed them – including playing with them too as they float along the top of the tank!”
Across the Park, creatures big and small have been enjoying Christmas treats including the Asian short-clawed otters who have recently received a sleigh of goodies including treat balls and toys. The seals will also be receiving a frozen parcel of fish on Christmas day, shaped like a pudding.
