CharFest will be back on 23-24th August 2014 following the outstanding success of the one day festival last summer which featured live local singers and performers from all over the area. In addition to the local amazing music was the array of people who turned out en masse in cosplay ranging from Doctor Who tv characters, Peppa Pig to pirates acting in character to thrill the families there.

CharFest was a spectacular coming together of local people supporting the cause, which was promoted by mainly word of mouth through the charity’s Facebook page in just 8 weeks of organising by the charity’s founder Angela Howard and friends.

Next year promises to be bigger and better with two stages, full live bands, acts, entertainers, comedians and poets. Local businesses queuing up to book, less than a week after it announced a second year. There will be a purpose built stage area, more local trade stalls and lots of exciting entertainment with a ‘cosplay’ element to wow festival goers of all ages.

The festival will be held on and in the grounds of the historic Avon Social Club in Charminster, Bournemouth on 23rd and24th August 2014 12pm- 8.30pm.

Comedian Tony Hancock lived at two homes just outside Charminster and Queens Park – and his first engagement as a comic was at the Charminster social club. It boasts a very large, grassed, enclosed beer garden, plus the upstairs function room where Tony played, to house more traders and entertainment. The club’s capacity is approx. 900 people.

The festival’s aims are to raise funds for local charity Victim No More, a charity specialising in support for victims of violent crimes in Dorset and surrounding areas and to provide opportunities for young and new musicians and creative artists in the spoke word in Dorset, helping them to further their artistic ambitions and to provide equal opportunities for all sections of the community to be involved in music and to help bands get established in the local area both through the festival and CharFest Promotions.

There will be different sci-fi themes for both days including Doctor Who, Steampunk, Stars Wars and Star Trek and more.
