The idea of bringing all thing bookish to Purbeck has been a tremendous success, with over 500 hundred tickets sold and more than 800 people taking part in the two week programme, an incredible achievement for an inaugural event, which has been run ‘not for profit’ in its first year.
News travelled fast via social media with close to 500 hundred twitter followers and 1000-1500 people per week viewing onFacebookover the festival.Events have also seen a cross-section of the local community and visitors taking part.in creative workshops. family activities and events all run in unique venues and attractions.
The general feeling is that the festival therefore has the strength to grow from year to year, using successful models such as the Purbeck Film Festival and Purbeck Art Weeks.
Festival organiser Emma Fernandez says:
It’s absolutely thrilling to have an idea for an new event that seems to have really worked., and I can’t thank everyone enough for their time and support. So many people have contributed, particularly The National Trust for our launch, and authors and venues as well as The Tourist Information Centres for their administrative help with our packed two-week programme. We have had tremendously encouraging feedback, so we are now having a few weeks off to consider our strategy for 2015. There are lots of ideas, some of which couldn’t be implemented this year. Our dates will remain the same, wrapped around February Half Term – so this will be 16th February – March 1st 2015.
