Awards for the ‘good graffiti’ project will be handed out at a ceremony on 3 April.

The 6-month street art project was set up by district council Chairman Gillian Summers in November 2013.

It aimed to reduce vandalism and damage caused by unsightly graffiti and tagging by channelling the talents and energy of people who want to do graffiti into something positive.

Blank walls were set up at Simons Road, Sherborne; The Trick Factory, St Michael’s Trading Estate, Bridport and Damers Road, Dorchester.

Each wall displayed the project’s logo so those wanting to produce the art could do so in an acceptable environment.

Photos of the project can be found the Twitter and Facebook pageswww.twitter.com/goodgraffitiWD and www.facebook.com/goodgraffiti

The ceremony will take place from 6pm at South Walks House, South Walks Road, Dorchester.

The ceremony will also give artists and those involved in the project the chance to graffiti a car.

Neil Siford from Bridport and a group of friends will be entering the fund-raising competition ‘Monaco or Bust’ where competitors have to buy a car for under £250, paint it up and drive from the UK to Monaco. Mr Siford will be raising money for the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK.

Cllr Gillian Summers said: “The car will be sporting our Goodgraffiti logo and will be painted in a Jurassic theme, and will be a wonderful way to round off our project.

“As well as giving street artists a legal way to express their art we will be contributing to two very good charities. I hope lots of residents will drop by between 6pm and 7.30pm to see the progress with the car.”

The awards ceremony will include a screen presentation with a message from musician and DJ Goldie and free food and drinks. Posters will be available to buy of some of the best works produced over the course of the project.
