Bournemouth Council’s Drug and Alcohol team are set to open a new drop-in service to help educate and support people in Bournemouth on how to address concerns they may have around their alcohol consumptions and the related problems this can bring.

From tomorrow (April 1 2014) a new service will be based at 161 Old Christchurch Road offering information advice and support for people needing help or for those people concerned about someone they know.

The service is being delivered by Addaction, the UK’s leading drug and alcohol treatment charity; the service will be open six days a week and two evenings.

Councillor Jane Kelly, portfolio holder for partnerships & regeneration, said:

“We are committed to providing support to everyone affected by alcohol.  Alcohol is a real issue and needs to be tackled by the whole community.  This new service will provide people with the support they need.

“Our aim is to help people address their alcohol problems and lead healthy,trouble-free lives.”

Jacqui Buchanan, Addaction services manager for Bournemouth, said:

“Although we understand the importance of working with the individual we also realises that supporting parents, partners and carers will need to be an integral part of the service, no-one can recover on their own.”

Staff at the new service will deliver group workshops and provide one to one support to people helping them to deal with problematic drinking.
