In 19th century Eastern Europe, Jewish musicians travelled from town to town performing at weddings and other celebrations, meeting and playing with local musicians and sharing repertoire. In the same vein, award-winning London-based klezmer ensemble She’Koyokh has spent the last decade soaking up the rich folk music of the Balkans, Eastern Europe and Turkey.

Hailed by Songlines magazine as “Britain’s best klezmer and Balkan band” and named winners of the Netherlands’ International Jewish music competition, She’Koyokh’s acclaimed evolution spans the humble origins of busking at East London’s Columbia Road flower market to performing in the famous concert halls of Europe, including Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and London’s Southbank Centre. As well as TV appearances and live sessions on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’ and ‘World on 3’, She’Koyokh have also performed at festivals such as Glastonbury, Cheltenham and WOMAD.

Nominated as ‘Best Group’ in the Songlines World Music Awards 2012, She’Koyokh’s third album ‘Wild Goats and UnMarried Women’ was released to high acclaim in March 2014 on World Music Network. As part of the album launch tour, She’Koyokh are set to appear for one special evening on the Artsreach circuit this summer.

Expect a night of exhilarating music for singing, listening and dancing to as She’Koyokh embark on a fascinating musical journey, encompassing soulful Gypsy melodies, toe-tapping Yiddish music, Balkan dances, Turkish ballads, and virtuosic solos. Performed with huge energy and passion, early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment!
