Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT) is pleased to announce the return of the popular Big Wild Chesil Event at the Chesil Beach Centre on Sunday 27th July from 10am – 5pm.

There will be lots of entertainment, including local dancers, a live band, a barbeque serving up locally-sourced food throughout the day and lots of activities to discover the fascinating world of bugs, reptiles, crabs and anemones found in the area.

New features for this year’s event include a performance by a Portland-based children’s group – the Second Edition Majorettes, tips on how to get involved with DWT’s Wildlife On Your Doorstep scheme, and the Marine Giants Exhibition, which is running as part of our national Marine Week celebrations.

This event is held a year after the Chesil Beach Centre was officially opened by Lord Seb Coe, as part of the 2012 Olympic Legacy Programme.  Visitors can enjoy the delicious treats from the Taste* café and take a walk around our shop, which is filled with interesting books, gifts and wildlife keep-sakes.  The under-water lagoon camera will also be displayed, to show visitors what’s really happening beneath the waves!

DWT Skills for the Future trainee, Megan Shersby, is organising the event.  She said: “Big Wild Chesil is one of our biggest events of the year where we celebrate not only the wildlife but the history of Chesil Beach and the surrounding area.  Last year we had over a thousand visitors to this event, so we’re really looking forward to welcoming both locals and visitors to enjoy food, drink, activities, and performances for all ages to enjoy.”

The Chesil Beach Centre is located halfway along the A354 causeway to Portland, postcode DT4 9XE.  For more information about the centre, visit www.dorsetwildlifetrust.org.uk/chesil
