This Christmas and New Year, Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT) has events lined-up for everyone, whether you are interested in arts and crafts, finding the perfect Christmas present, or spending some time outside on a woodland walk.

Christmas has come early at the Fine Foundation Chesil Beach Centre, with the Christmas Bazaar on Sunday 30th November, for those looking to get a head-start with their Christmas shopping.  A mixture of gifts, local arts and crafts, wildlife toys and books and stocking fillers can be found in the shop.  There is also a more ‘unusual’ gift on offer, with ‘sponsor a plank’; write a message to a loved-one to be displayed on a brass plaque on the board walk at Chesil.

Chesil Centre Officer, Marc Smith said: “We are offering some really unique gift ideas at the Chesil Centre this year, and all profits go back into DWT’s conservation work.  We also have a ‘green’ Father Christmas coming to the Bazaar from 11am-1pm, so children will have a chance to meet him and take part in some Christmas challenges to win a gift.”

The Kingcombe Centre near Dorchester, is holding its annual Christmas Fayre on Saturday 6th December from 10am – 4pm, with a range of Dorset’s finest local produce and ideas for art-inspired special gifts from local artists, including Bruno Charron and David Metcalfe.  Enjoy the surroundings of the Kingcombe Meadows Nature reserve with a seasonal treat from the Kingcombe café, including hog roast baps, mince pies and a tipple of mulled wine or cider.  Children can enjoy the Santa’s grotto and taking part in making Christmas crafts.

Lorton Meadows in Weymouth is hosting a Christmas crafts day from 10.30 – 12.30pm on Saturday 6th December.  Children and adults are invited to get crafty and create cards, gifts and treats for loved-ones and edible bird treats and mini beast homes for wildlife!  The Centre is also open for the day, where visitors can peruse Christmas cards, calendars and gifts. Refreshments provided, booking essential on 01305 816546.  The Centre will be open from 10am – 4pm.

In east Dorset, getting back to nature with the Winter Woodland Tea Party on Sunday 4th January from 10am-1pm at Delph woods in Poole, is a great way to start the New Year.  After a guided woodland walk and winter tree identification, we will provide storm kettles with tea, coffee or hot chocolate and kids’ woodland craft activities.  Part of the Great Heath Living Landscape project.   No unaccompanied children. Suggested donation £3.  Booking essential, contact [email protected]
