Forged from the voices of Hannah James, Hazel Askew and Rowan Rheingans, Lady Maisery explore vocal harmony to breathtaking effect, through their fresh interpretations of songs and ballads.
They released their debut album ‘Weave & Spin’ in 2012 and as a result, were nominated for a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award. 2013 saw the release of their critically acclaimed second album ‘Mayday’, which reached the number one slot in BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction ‘Top 10 Releases of the Summer’, was made a ‘Top of the World’ album by Songlines magazine and was given 5 stars by The Financial Times.
As well as enchanting audiences with innovative re-workings of old songs and ballads, Lady Maisery break new ground as one of the first UK groups to explore the tradition of ‘diddling’ or ‘tune singing’, which has nearly died out in England, but is still prevalent in Scandinavia and other parts of Europe. Whether singing unaccompanied or with backing by intelligent, striking arrangements on fiddle, harp, banjo accordion and foot percussion, be prepared to be enchanted by rich harmonies and sumptuous clashes as Lady Maisery emerge as one of the most original new groups on the UK folk scene
