Local people will go to the polls on Thursday 7 May 2015 to elect their West Dorset district councillors.

The district council has produced a leaflet and provided information on its website explaining who can stand for election, the nomination process and what councillors do.  There is also practical information on the time commitment, allowances and support provided for councillors.

Councillors play a key role in the district and are the voice of the community, representing local people. They help shape future services for the benefit of local people by collectively carrying out policy making and contributing to the formation and scrutiny of West Dorset District Council’s policies, budget and strategies.

By representing the views of local people as a community advocate, councillors ensure that local interests are taken into account. The leaflet and website produced by the district council explains the services the council provides, the role of councillors and the election process.

For a copy of the leaflet please contact the district council’s Democratic Services Team on 01305 252394 or email [email protected].

The Democratic Services Team will also be able to offer advice, suggest committee meetings that interested individuals may wish to attend and arrange meetings with serving councillors.

The deadline for the submission of nomination papers is 4pm on Thursday 9 April 2015.
