Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT) is pleased to be taking part in the Bournemouth Natural Science Society’s (BNSS) open day on Saturday 11th April, with a series of wildlife gardening workshops.

DWT experts will be available all day, on hand to offer wildlife friendly gardening advice, with hands-on workshops, question and answer sessions and stalls to inspire local people to look after their gardens with wildlife in mind.

DWT’s Great Heath Conservation Officer, Katie Wilkinson, said, “This spring, The Great Heath Team is encouraging everyone to get out in their gardens or local green spaces and do their bit to look after wildlife.  By making just a few changes or additions, such as making a space for wildlife in your garden, it will make a difference.  It will also make a difference to you – studies show that being outside and getting exercise can improve both physical and mental health.”

The open day is an opportunity for visitors to explore the BNSS museum collections, from geology to Egyptology, and see what the society has to offer.  There will be craft activities for children, as well as live insect demonstrations and pond dipping!  Tea, coffee and cakes will be available in the Museum room, with a lovely view overlooking the activities in the garden.

Communications Officer for BNSS, Katherine West, said, “We are very excited to be opening our doors once again and welcoming people in to look at our wonderful museum and garden.  Our volunteers are very enthusiastic about our collections, and sharing them with the public.  The open days are one of our most popular events.  Working with Dorset Wildlife Trust and other local organisations gives this open day another dimension, and we are very pleased to be working in partnership with them.”

The event will run from 10am – 4pm on Saturday 11thApril at the Bournemouth Natural Science Society, 39 Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, BH1 3NS.  Entrance is free.  For more information, contact Katie Wilkinson on 01202 692033.   For more information about the BNSS, visit https://www.bnss.org.uk or contact [email protected] or 07786080025.
