Plans for Bournemouth’s new Summer Jazz Festival are now well under way with a large number of singers and musicians booked to perform in the town over this year’s Father’s Day weekend, Friday 19th, Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st June.

Well known jazz singer Zoe Schwarz will be leading the way with her husband Rob Koral and their world class Jazz Quintet playing a selection of dinner jazz favourites at the Sandbanks Hotel on the opening night.

Joining them on the programme line up for the opening night are Pat Peiro and the Swing Unlimited Big Band playing at The Riviera Hotel and trumpeter Andy Urquart’s Sound of Blue Note guesting at the Hallmark Hotel.

Local Jazz enthusiasts are in for a real treat as 36 different bands, singers and musicians, covering a wide range of musical styles, ranging from big bands to latin, swing, modern, funky, fusion and trad will be playing at a number of venues in the town.

More than 30 local hotels, bars and restaurants will be hosting events from Friday night to Sunday lunchtime and a number of free concerts have been scheduled around the town, including the Lower Gardens Bandstand, the Bournemouth Triangle Piazza and on the Food & Drink Festival Stage in the Town Square and the Shake & Stir Bandstand on Fisherman’s Walk.

The full programme line up will be announced shortly.

Gerry Clarke, Festival Director says “Our plans are evolving rapidly as more and more talented local musicians have offered to play in this the towns’ first Jazz Festival. I am also extremely pleased that so many local bars and restaurants have come forward offering to host our events. There will be something for everyone this weekend, smooth dinner jazz, good old fashioned trad and a variety of newer jazz styles including latin, fusion and some gypsy jazz for the real affectionados!
