Bournemouth Borough Council has teamed up with British Cycling to give residents another chance to experience free guided bike rides around the town.

British Cycling’s Sky Ride Local programme is returning to Bournemouth in June, offering residents and visitors another opportunity take part in free guided bike rides. From gentle pootles down the coastline to tours of Bournemouth’s award winning parks and urban landscape, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

The rides are split into three groups, ranging from easy-going to challenging, meaning there is a ride to suit everyone, regardless of age or ability. All rides are organised and guided by British Cycling trained Ride Leaders, who are on hand to offer encouragement and support to those taking part in the guided ride.

The free guided bike rides are being delivered as part of the Council’s commitment to make cycling in Bournemouth safer, easier and more attractive. Over the past three years extensive work has been underway to create an additional 8,000 metres of safe cycling routes on key routes in the town, including Dutch style segregated lanes along Castle Lane West and Richmond Hill.

Councillor Mike Greene, Cabinet member for Transport, said; “I am delighted we will be continuing to work in partnership with British Cycling to encourage more people to cycle.

“Cycling is a great way to get out and see more of the local area while having fun and keeping fit. I encourage anyone who hasn’t been on a guided ride yet to sign up for a ride over the summer months.”

Bournemouth’s ride series will be kicking off on Sunday 7 June with two rides exploring the town’s award winning coastline. Spaces are limited so book now to avoid disappointment.

Stewart Kellett, British Cycling’s Director of Recreation and Partnerships, said; “What better way to get some exercise, get outdoors and see your area in a new way than to join some of the themed Sky Ride Local bike rides taking place in and around Bournemouth this summer.

“Whether you want to build your cycling confidence or already comfortable on a bike and looking for a challenge, now is the time to register your free place on a Sky Ride Local bike ride in Bournemouth.”
