Dorset Wildlife Trust’s (DWT’s) Fine Foundation Chesil Beach Centre is holding a series of events with local authors, to celebrate the wildlife, history and lesser-known stories about the Weymouth and Portland area.
Visitors to these intimate ‘Tea with an Author’ events will be hearing from the authors about their books and will have a chance to ask them questions whilst enjoying a cup of tea and slice of cake from the taste* café in the centre.
On Wednesday 30th September at 2.00pm, Julie Musk, author of ‘Lesser Known Weymouth’ and owner of Roving Press will be giving a talk. She said, “Come and discover the places and people that make Weymouth special. Lesser Known Weymouth is part of the ‘Lesser Known’ series published by Dorset books specialist Roving Press.”
Gary Biltcliffe, author of ‘The Spirit of Portland’ will be at the Chesil Centre on Wednesday 21stOctober at 2.00pm. He said, “I have been studying Portland for the past 10 years and have made some ground-breaking discoveries, including a secret Masonic code. Behind Portland’s dominant quarrying and naval history is an island with a fascinating past.”
In addition to these two ‘Tea with an Author’ events, DWT will also be hosting a ‘Tea-time Guide to everything Chesil’ on Wednesday 7thOctober at 2.00pm. Join the DWT warden for tea and cake at this relaxed event to find out about the famous Chesil Beach and its wildlife, which forms part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, followed by a short walk to visit key areas of interest.
Megan Shersby, Seasonal Assistant for DWT, said: “These events are a rare opportunity to get an insight into the mysteries and secrets of the local area, including surprising facts that local people may not be aware of. You can also enjoy a hot drink and slice of cake from the taste* café!”
