If you’ve ever wanted to watch theatre, live music, spoken word or dance and be able to write about it and get your opinions heard, then a new scheme devised by Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts will allow you to do just that.

Young Reviewers brings a fascinating and packed programme of workshops led by industry critics to help you gain knowledge of how to talk about the arts. Applicants will be encouraged to discover the medium that best suits their style – from blogging to broadsheet review, live tweeting to vlogging. Whatever your style, you’ll get all the help you need to begin or improve your critical approach.

Each workshop in the Young Reviewers series is centred around one of the forthcoming shows from Lighthouse’s new spring season. Participants will watch and review a performance, then gain feedback from mentors on their work.

Young Reviewers will be an essential course to anyone with an interest in talking about theatre, bloggers looking to find their voice, aspiring critics and journalists or anyone wanting to establish a successful website or online presence,” explains Sara St George, Head of Sales and Marketing for Lighthouse. “We’ve lined up some top arts journalists to lead our workshops including Donald Hutera of the Times, Susan Elkin from The Stage and Catherine Love of Exeunt Magazine amongst others. It’s a really unique opportunity to learn from the best and will help create the next generation of arts writers.”

In May of this year Young Reviewers participants will contribute to the Young Programmers Music Festival at Lighthouse, with the opportunity to review events and write features. The Young Reviewers scheme is open to budding writers aged 18 and over, with the first workshop taking place on 13 February at Lighthouse.

Lighthouse has launched its Young Reviewers programme in association with the Theatre Royal Winchester’s industry-leading young critics project. Full details can be found on the Learning pages of the Lighthouse websitewww.lighthousepoole.co.uk  For more information on how to join the workshops call the ticket office on 01202 280000 or email [email protected]
