World renowned nutritionist, Barbara Cox, has been offering her expert advice during a series of healthy eating, productivity boosting workshops held by the Rubicon Recruitment Group.

With more than six million UK employees not leaving their desks for lunch, leading UK nutritionist, Barbara Cox, has set out on a mission to warn workers across Dorset of the perils of unhealthy eating and the detrimental effect this can have on themselves and their work.

Through a recent workshop promoting healthy eating in the workplace, run in association with Dorset-based Rubicon Recruitment Group, Barbara has started to raise awareness of how failing to take in enough energy and nutrients, combined with a stressful working environment, leads many workers to become tired, unhealthy, apathetic and lacking in concentration.

The workshop was designed to give people in business the knowledge required to maintain a healthy and balanced diet. Offering her expert advice, Barbara spoke about good foods to eat at the desk and how to snack healthily to boost productivity in the workplace. Barbara’s top tips include chewing for longer to improve digestion, focusing on food instead of work and portion control. The workshop also promoted the benefits of keeping hydrated and avoiding caffeine overloads. With one third of workers admitting to skipping breakfast, Barbara also encouraged everyone to make time to fuel your day for success.

Barbara said:

“If you’re in the habit of eating at your desk make sure you eat regular meals and snacks. Consuming the greatest range of colourful fruit and vegetables will not only increase your productivity, but strengthen your immune system, boost concentration and lessen the number of sick days you take.’’

Barbara has also advised people to ‘Find Time for Nine’ and eat at least 9 portions of fruit and vegetables throughout the day. The best sources of vitamins and minerals in Barbara’s top selection include: carrots, cherries, watercress, strawberries, asparagus, pineapple, radishes, pomegranates, and kale.

Rubicon Recruitment Group hosted the workshop in their Great Chamber, a facility which is available to local businesses, free of charge, for off-site board meetings, conferences, gatherings or training events.

Tina Perry, Learning & Development Manager at Rubicon Recruitment Group, commented:

“We were delighted to have Barbara come in and offer her expert advice. Rubicon like to promote a healthy workforce and so we were pleased to host this workshop in our Great Chamber.

Barbara gave plenty of dedicated advice towards maintaining a healthy and balanced diet, explaining how it can not only make you feel better but boost your productivity in the workplace. We hope to continue to spread Barbara’s valuable advice to workers across Dorset and get everyone eating healthily.”
