Dorset Wildlife Trust’s (DWT) Great Heath Living Landscape team will be returning to the Bournemouth Natural Science Society’s (BNSS) annual museum open day to give expert advice about wildlife gardening on Saturday 16th April.
Activities will include building your own bee home, and making wildlife crafts. Plus Kate Bradbury, author of The Wildlife Gardener will be giving a talk about wildlife gardening, and signing books.
DWT and Chestnut Nursery will also be promoting its new partnership to work together to promote the importance of wildlife friendly gardening, by giving expert advice on plants.
Great Heath Community Conservation Officer, Katie Wilkinson said, “After the success of last year’s event, we are very pleased to be joining forces with the BNSS once again. This is a family-friendly event, and there will be something for everyone to enjoy, whether it’s browsing around the natural history collection in the museum, or listening to Kate Bradbury’s talk.”
There will also be live demonstrations of flying cockroaches, and a chance to hold a tarantula. The BNSS Museum, which has just become an accredited museum, offers lots of treasures to explore, with the Egyptian collection, the Botany collection and the Geology collection.
Katherine West from the BNSS said, “The BNSS is thrilled to be working with the DWT again this year on this event. It was a huge success last year and hopefully we can replicate that! Since last year, we have become an accredited museum and our volunteers are working hard to promote and improve the Society and museum. We are really looking forward to opening our doors this April and sharing our collections, knowledge (and cake!) with our visitors!”
Entry is free from 10am – 4pm, although there will be a small charge for refreshments and activities. The BNSS (www.bnss.org.uk) is at 39 Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, BH1 3NS. There is limited parking so please walk/use public transport or park in nearby roads. Tea and cake will be available and other organisations attending include, Bournemouth Borough Council, Bournemouth University and Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (ARC).
