A series of blockbuster films and special screenings are set to be shown at ODEON Dorchester this summer. For those interested in opera, theatre and the latest films a visit to the Brewery Square-based cinema is a must this summer.

On Monday June 27 at 7pm, the cinema audience will be able to enjoy a live Royal Opera House performance based on Goethe’s novel The Sorrows of Young Werther. Massenet’s opera tells the story of the poet Werther’s hopeless love for Charlotte, who is committed to another man.
The music is full of lyrical beauty, passion and emotion.

Another live screening to be hosted by the cinema this summer will be Shakespeare’s classic romantic tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, directed by Kenneth Branagh. The performance will be broadcast live directly to the cinema from the Garrick Theatre on Thursday July 7 at 7.15pm.  In this production Kenneth Branagh reunites Richard Madden and Lily James, the stars of his blockbuster hit Cinderella, to play star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet.  Derek Jacobi will star as Mercutio.

Aside from live screenings the cinema will also be showing a range of blockbuster films including The Secret Life of Pets & Independence Day: Resurgence, week commencing June 24, Ghostbusters, week commencing July 15, and Roald Dahl’s classic novel, The BFG, which is directed by Steven Spielberg which screens week commencing July 22.
