Minor works are set to be carried out on Weymouth’s Stone Pier.
Maintenance on a section of the pier are due to begin on 27 June and last for a maximum of two weeks.
The works will improve the pier’s structural integrity, ensure public safety and improve the appearance.
Part of the maintenance work will include removing some existing loose render, near to the steps onto the pebble beach, and respraying with concrete.
Another piece of work taking place is on a section of the sea wall further along the pier. This will include repositioning a displaced masonry block and adding a concrete curtain to the base section of the wall.
Access to the pebble beach which sits between the Nothe Fort and the Stone Pier will be closed off.
During this time the harbour are also set to carry out works, with renovation to the viewing tower and adjacent railings on the seaward end of the Stone Pier. The sections under renovation will be cordoned off while works are in progress. These works will begin on 4 July and last for around two weeks.
Cllr Jeff Cant, Weymouth & Portland Borough Council’s Briefholder for Finance and Assets, said: “We aim to keep disruption to a minimum during these works and ask residents and visitors to be conscious of the renovations when using the pier. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
Works and construction vehicle access means that some access restrictions will be in place, however the pier will still be open to the public.
