Two weeks to go and music lovers in Dorset will be happy to hear that the Anonymous Festival is on track to deliver another bumper harvest of musical goodies. This year there is an exceptionally packed programme of performers plus even more activities on offer than usual with something to suit all ages!
The 8th Anonymous Festival will take place on Saturday the 27th August from noon to 6pm at Maumbury Rings in Dorchester (gates open at 11am with to get yourself a good spot and try out some of the things to do)
The event is open to anyone and is FREE to attend – plus the activities are all free too!
As usual, the event will be promoting some of the most talented and interesting young bands and musicians from across the South West with a wide range of musical genres being showcased.
With 9 acts on the main stage this year, the festival organisers are thrilled to yet again be offering such a high quality menu of music.
Acts for 2016 include Declan Millar, a talented folk musician from Glastonbury who accompanies himself on an open tuned guitar. Declan already has a lot of performance experience and in 2015 he won a best new comers competition at Bath Folk Festival. Also performing are Wise Intention, an upbeat Alternative Rock band of three brothers delivering an energetic blend of punchy rhythms, dynamic melodies & heartfelt vocals. Headlining this year are Fast Decline, a talented 5 piece group from Somerset who play an engaging and lively mix up of ska, funk, Gypsy music with roaring sax lines – guaranteed to make you want to move! Other great acts this year include Pop Club, Kennedy, Ten Zero One, Tapley and Stocker, The Inca’s and a new ensemble performance put together specifically for the event.
Emma Scott, who coordinates the festival, says “Anonymous is a fantastic event as it showcases some incredibly talented younger musicians. In addition, the activities are great fun – and where else can you spend a day with this much fantastic entertainment laid on for free! The young people who have helped to organise the day, the youth forum Dorchester Youth Extra, should be applauded for all their hard work fundraising to pay for the event. It really will be somewhere for you to spend the whole day – so bring a picnic or take advantage of the food on sale”
“Also, we still have a couple of spaces left in our open mic tent for performers to come forward – so do get in touch if you would like to sing a few songs at the event or maybe tell some jokes or perform some magic!”.
As ever the day is about more than great music. There are a whole host of activities and performances that have been put together to give Dorchester a day to remember.
There will be the opportunity to try out free running with ‘Train Hard Parkour’ and slack lining with the amazing‘Maverick Slacklines’ team.There will be a bouncy castle and inflatable bungee run as well as a chance to get crafty with graffiti art and craft workshops. Plus this year there will be a photo booth for you to come and have your pictures taken with family and friends.
There will also be the opportunity to see a brilliant new show called the Iguanodon Restaurant which is an outdoor theatre production on a huge scale inspired by a famous banqueting scene in a 35-foot Victorian Iguanodon. Highly visual, funny and peculiar, this rollicking show will not only entertain but will teach you more about the history of geology and the fascinating questions it raises!
The Open Mic area will also return for 2016, sponsored by Keep Love Sweet, with a second stage of live music all day, a chill out area, and even a workshop teaching you how to DJ.
