There has been a great response for Lyme’s Splash’s Jurassic Coast Lyme Regis to Charmouth Challenge 3.15k open water sea swim on Sunday 11thSeptember with both swimmers and volunteers signing up to take part in this first ever event from all over the UK and particularly in the South West.
Anyone wishing to swim needs to sign up now as places are going fast! Swimmers have to be competent in the sea and have swum at least a mile in open water.
Graham Forshaw MBE – the Harbour Master has checked over the safety details and will be attending the safety briefing prior to the event for all those taking part in ensuring the swimmers safety in the water. The swim will be partially buoyed between Lyme Regis & Charmouth with canoes and boats providing support in the water. The Coast Guard and the RNLI also have the event logged in their diaries.
‘We’ve had a fantastic response from high calibre volunteers for on the water that includes support kayakers, Life Guards as well as safety boats from Lyme Regis Power Boat Club & Lyme Regis Sailing Club. We want swimmers to enjoy this event and to support that safety is paramount, so we are checking and double checking every detail.” Said Karen Durham-Diggins, Chair of Lyme Splash.
Volunteers on the beaches have also been coming forward. At Charmouth Local Physiotherapist Rebecca Loader and Devon based The Soft Tissue Studio’s SportsmasseurEmma Prior will be on hand if anyone gets cramp together with First Aiders to help if anyone gets cold or has any minor problem.
“Everyone is really pulling together for this event, but we can always take on more volunteers – I’ve a few more jobs to fill! ” Added Karen.
Sponsors of Lyme splash are supporting the swimmers welfare too. At the end of their swim Dorset Tea is providing all the swimmers, and volunteers, with a hot cup of tea together with Moores biscuits to help warm them up and re-energise them.
Lyme Splash will be providing space blankets for swimmers after the Challenge so they can wrap themselves up on their Lyme Rib Ride back to Lyme Regis. On their return they can have a hot shower and change courtesy of the Lyme Regis Sailing Club.

The cost to register is £25 and each swimmer is being asked if they could donate too for the selected charities; B Sharp, The Marine Theatre and Water Aid.

The Lyme Regis To Charmouth Challenge 2016 is the first Lyme Splash event.
We aim to raise money for local charities split evenly between: B Sharp (children & young people’s music participation charity), The Marine Theatre and National charity Water Aid.
We aim to celebrate the water facilities that Lyme Regis has to offer. In doing so highlight the wealth of water-sport clubs, opportunities and work together, both for locals and to attract more business into the local economy.
We will aim to build Lyme Splash in the coming years to include more events that celebrate Lyme Regis’s water sports and to extend this over a weekend.
Lyme Splash is a not-for-profit organization.
The Lyme Regis to Charmouth Challenge 2016 event ends with a presentation celebration at The Marine Theatre where all swimmers & volunteers would be invited from 16.00 – 17.00 and for the volunteers. There will be live music from B Sharp, our own Lyme Splash rap, raffle and much more!

If swimmers wish us to post their swim hat and tag there is a £3.30 charge or they can collect it on the day of the event.
