Kit Walker, 26, has only been racing triathlons for just five years. He initially took on the Osprey Sprint Triathlon Portland in 2011 and since then has won a succession of events including the Outlaw in Nottingham in July 2016 where over 1000 athletes took part. Kit completed and won the men’s 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and 42.2km run in 8 hours 58 minutes. Kit commented “Every time you come past the finish its just phenomenal, with loads of noise and everyone shouting your name. I knew I’d have to have a really good race to win: I didn’t quite have the run I was capable of, but it was enough”. The Outlaw race will be on national television during the morning of Saturday 3 September on Channel 4 and then repeated on Eurosport.
Kit will also be competing in the Ironman 70.3 Weymouth race on 11th
September, the IRONMAN 70.3 Weymouth offers 35 qualifying slots for the 2017 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship. Kit turned professional in January 2016 and since then has been seeking sponsors to support his career. Kit said “It cost around £20,000 p.a. to take part in competitions. Sponsorship is needed for clothing, equipment and travel but the payback opportunities for sponsors can be considerable as I regularly write a blog and use social media to share my activities and performance. After Ironman Weymouth I will be competing in the full Ironman in Mallorca on the 24th September and then I will concentrate on events in 2017 and working with my sponsors. If anyone is interested in sponsoring me I would very much like them to get in touch with me.”
Osprey Leisure Centre on Portland is where Kit does a lot of his daily training and he also works as a coach, teaching other athletes how to train at a top level. Nigel Williams General Manager of Osprey Leisure Centre said “ Kit is a real inspiration to many young athletes, he works incredibly hard and his dedication to his sport is admirable. I really hope we can help Kit find the right sponsors to support his sporting career.” When Kit is not training he works as an engineer part time on Portland and is a father to a young family.
