For the tenth time the Bustinskins “Sprint” Triathlon was held at Osprey Leisure Centre on Sunday 9th October 2016. The Sprint Triathlon is held twice a year at Osprey Leisure Centre and is organised by the Bustinskin race team and volunteers.
In 2010 when the event began, around 60 people entered the event but this year the event saw record numbers of entries with many of the entrants coming from the Bustinskin race team but good numbers from much further afield and all along the south coast in particular.
The October weather was mild for the time of year, so all entrants thoroughly enjoyed the event starting with the 300m swim in Osprey pool, followed by 17km cycling around the isle of Portland and then the 5km run across the beach road. Mark Steen, Bustinskin organiser said “It was a great race, well attended, amazing facilities at Osprey Leisure Centre with great marshals, the whole event provides a real boost for Portland’s sporting legacy, and we cannot wait for the April 2017 race which again will be held at Osprey Leisure”
Nigel Williams, General Manager of Osprey Leisure Centre said “It is always a pleasure to host the Sprint Triathlon as it is so well organised by the Bustinskin race team and we see so many of our regular customers who have been training for it at Osprey Leisure Centre. For many of our members it is their first triathlon event and even the staff look forward to working on the day of the race!”
The race was won by Luke Voss of the Bustinskin Triathlon Club, the next Osprey Sprint Triathlon will be held on 9th April 2017.
