The case against a Dorset Police officer, who was due to appear in court charged with assaulting a man, has been discontinued.

Police Constable Jamie Wallis was due to appear at Bournemouth Magistrates’ Court today, Friday 11 November 2016.

A CPS Wessex spokesperson said: “The CPS process for reviewing allegations of offences committed by police officers has recently altered. As a consequence Wessex CPS took over conduct of the prosecution of PC Wallis. The file was further reviewed in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors by a Senior District Crown Prosecutor and it was concluded that there was insufficient evidence to have a realistic prospect of conviction. As a consequence the case has been discontinued.”

Superintendent Pete Windle, Dorset Police Head of Professional Standards, said: “Dorset Police expects the highest standards of professionalism and integrity from its staff. We have a duty to thoroughly investigate criminal allegations against our staff, as we have done in this case, the details of which were then passed to the Crown Prosecution Service for their consideration and decision.”
