Anyone interested in leading Bridport Health Walks are being asked to get in touch with the district council.

Bridport Health Walks is just one of around 400 schemes nationwide.

Free training will be provided for anyone interested.

The role of the volunteers is to lead and promote walks, checking out new routes and risk assessments. Volunteers will need to be able to commit to lead two to three walks a month with another leader. The walks take place on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 10.30am, meeting and finishing at the Citizens Advice Bureau in South Street in Bridport and are just for 30 minutes.

The walkers and leaders usually go for a hot drink together after the walks. All the walks have two trained leaders on them and new leaders would be paired up with an experienced trained walk leader to start with. Potential volunteers are encouraged to go along to one of the weekly walks to see if this is something they would like to be involved with.

Cllr Mary Penfold, West Dorset District Council’s Enabling Portfolio Holder, said:

“Bridport Health Walks are an opportunity for people to get together and enjoy a walk around the Bridport area. The walks are a great way to get out and socialise while getting exercise.”

Training for lead walkers will take place on Tuesday 6 December at the pavilion at Bridport Leisure Centre from 10am to 4pm. For more information or to book a place on the training go to www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/article/357246/Health-walks-in-West-Dorset
