Spring has sprung! Get outside this half term with DWT

Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT) is celebrating the welcome change of the seasons from winter to spring with a host of exciting and adventurous activities for children to get involved with at DWT visitor centres and nature reserves this half term.  

First stop is the Fine Foundation Chesil Beach Centre, where its celebrating its love for wildlife on Valentine’s Day, Tuesday 14th February from 11am – 3pm. Children are invited to show their love for wildlife and make gifts for the wildlife in your garden. Crafts range from 50p – £3. Children must be accompanied. On Saturday 18thFebruary, take part in the Chesil Challenge from 11am – 1pm. Children can explore a treasure trail inside and outside the centre looking for clues to solve puzzles and Chesil Beach and the Fleet Lagoon.

In Weymouth, take part in the Lorton Meadows nature reserve Caterpillar Kids events, kicking off with ‘Mini Nature Reserves’ on Thursday 16thFebruary from 10.30am – 12.30pm. Explore the woods, meadows and ponds of Lorton Meadows, then create a mini version to take home. On Friday 17th February discover the creatures of the wild Withy Woods, make boggarts for the trees and wood elf puppets to take home.  Both events cost £2.50 and include games with the Conservation Officer. Booking essential on 01305 816546. Children must be accompanied.

In east Dorset, get wild with Forest School sessions for accompanied children under 11, on Tuesday 14th February and Thursday 16thFebruary at Upton Country Park from 10am – 12pm.  Enjoy woodland themed activities, crafts and games, where kids can interact with nature and learn a little, too.  £5 per child. If you fancy finding out about our marine wildlife, visit the DWT Fine Foundation Marine Centre at Kimmeridge on Wednesday 15thFebruary from 1.30pm – 3.30pm for the seal rescue event: turtle the seal is in trouble!  Join our rescue squad and learn how to save her from danger in the sea. £2.50 per child.
