Local spoken word performers and writers, The Dorset Holloway Collective, are delighted to announce that acclaimed poet, playwright and presenter of BBC Radio Four’s ‘Poetry Please’, Roger McGough, has agreed to lend his support to its forthcoming fundraiser for the Dorset County Hospital radiotherapy unit on Friday 26th October.

The event is being held at Eype Centre for the Arts, and Roger will be supported by acclaimed Dorset poet Annie Freud; classical flute and guitar duo, Appassionata, and other surprise guests.

Tickets are on sale now from Bridport Music at £15 (cash only). “A bargain really when you’d pay this to see any one of the artists individually. It promises to be an amazing night of entertainment. Whether you think you like poetry or no, come and be surprised. We’re overjoyed and greatly honoured that Roger McGough is headlining the night, it’s going to be very special,” said Collective member and performance poet, Tom Rogers.

“This is going to be a unique and dynamic celebration of voices and creative spirit. Expect fun, laughter, beauty, words and music to lift your heart, and hopefully give a real push for the radiotherapy unit campaign towards their final fundraising goals. With sponsorship, and the kind support of many local businesses, friends, and the performers, all proceeds from the tickets will go to the charity, and there will be a bar and raffle and art sale on the day too. There’s a lot of people making this happen and working hard to make it a night to remember,” said Collective member, and Jurassic Coast poet-in-residence, Sarah Acton.

A number of Bridport artists are exhibiting their work on Friday 26th October at an exclusive preview event 10.30am-12.30pm, and paintings will be on sale on the night also. Coffee and cakes will be available at the preview.

The new radiotherapy unit facility has been built to enable chemotherapy patients to be treated in Dorchester (rather than sent to Poole or Exeter), with space to accommodate relatives during treatment. Fundraisers are campaigning to supply furniture and equipment for the facility. The ‘GO Girls Support Group’ have already raised £44.000 towards the £50,000 needed.

Please support this campaign and event. Tickets limited to 150 so early purchase is recommended. It’s not just a good cause, it’s going to be a fabulous night out. Leaving the last word to Frances Colville, Collective member, writer and Story Slam organiser, “Cancer is certain to affect everyone of us in some way at some stage of our lives. An event like this is a wonderful way of helping boost funds for such a worthwhile cause.”
