Report:
THE PEOPLE VS ‘THE ELITE’? STATE OF HATE 2019
Here’s what you need to know from the State of Hate 2019:
- Trust in politics is collapsing – giving the far right space to prey on people’s anger and frustration. Our polling found that 68% of people felt no party represents them and more than half of people think the UK’s political system is broken.
- Nearly a third of people believe the lie that there are “no-go areas” in Britain where sharia law dominates. Almost half of Conservative voters believe this lie is true.
- This anger and frustration with politics is the space in which the far right is trying to organise, and they’re getting a lot of attention. Stephen Lennon’s ability to mobilise people makes him the biggest name on the far right since Oswald Mosley.
- While the phenomenon of ‘DIY fascists’ making noise online without the backing of a formal organisation, there is also a growing risk from violent extremists, who are getting more extreme. “It is almost like Hitler isn’t extreme enough for them anymore,” as my colleague Matthew Collins put it in the papers today.
The report is comprehensive and gives us a clear picture of what we’re up against. Please have a read, share it online so more people see it, and if you can, please support our research and intelligence teams who made this report possible.
Thanks,
