Officers investigating the theft of a wallet at a supermarket in Gillingham are issuing CCTV images of a suspect.

The incident occurred at around 11.50am on Friday 14 June 2019 at the Waitrose store at Chantry Fields in Gillingham.

It is believed two men watched the victim, a woman aged in her 70s, as she paid for items and then one of them approached her to ask for directions. When the woman got home she realised her wallet had been taken from her handbag. The wallet contained £120 in cash as well as her debit card.

Three attempts were subsequently made to withdraw cash using the card from cash machines in Shaftesbury that same day.

Police Community Support Investigator Kayleigh Hole, of North Dorset police, said: “We have made a number of enquiries into this incident and have obtained CCTV images of one of the suspects.

“Our efforts to identify him have so far been unsuccessful and I am now issuing the images in the hope that someone will recognise him.

“I would also urge members of the public to make sure they shield their PIN from others when paying for items and keep their handbags close and secure at all times.”
