Evidence of family poverty and its impact on young people in South Dorset is compelling. According to a senior officer of the county council it is “Dorset’s shame”. At this conference leading experts on poverty, deprivation and health get to the heart of the issue.

Professor Jane Millar is one of Britain’s leading researchers on social security, families and children. She has been a Special Adviser to the House of Commons Select Committee for Work and Pensions, and to the Department for Work and Pensions. Dr Kambiz Boomla has been a GP in East London for over 30 years and is now a Senior Clinical Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London, specialising in health provision in areas of poverty and widespread ill-health. Dr Anna Livingstone has also been a GP in East London for many years, campaigning for adequate health care in communities affected by poverty and deprivation.

Activists from Keep Portland Hospital and the Dorset Parents’ Campaign Group for SEND Children will take up problems of provision for the most vulnerable members of our community. WeyPAW will introduce policies that can make a difference.

This is an open public forum. WeyPAW is inviting Dorset councillors

to participate. We will be advising Dorset Council of findings

and policy proposals from the conference.
