Ho, ho, ho and deck the halls with boughs of holly! Christmas is coming to Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum.
Visitors can meet Father Christmas, enjoy a festive family film night or enjoy Victorian carol singers at the courthouse museum on High West Street this Christmas.
Following its hugely popular family film nights last year, the cinema is back! Every Wednesday in December from 4pm, (4th, 11th and 18th,) visitors can bring blankets and pillows and get comfy and the museum will provide the popcorn and hot chocolate. Enjoy festive favourites: Arthur Christmas, The Grinch and A Muppet Christmas Carol. Entry is just £4 per child, mums and dads get in for free, and all the films will be finished in time for the younger ones to be put to bed on time.
The Courthouse Museum will also be open late on December 5th for Dorchester’s Cracker Night – Father Christmas will be in his grotto and there will be Victorian carol singers. Then on the 14th, join the team for Christmas at Shire Hall, an extravaganza with craft workshops, bell ringers and a choir, Father Christmas, Christmas slime-making and Christmas gifts.
Director of Shire Hall, Anna Bright said: “People are always surprised how much fun we are having at Shire Hall. Visitors sometimes think as a social justice museum we’ll be quite austere and sombre, so they get quite a shock when they walk in! We aim to bring stories to life in a fun and informative way, and Christmas is no exception. We’re really looking forward to the film nights again this year, everyone had a great time last year and we have some classic films this year too. A definite favourite among the staff is Muppet Christmas Carol, it’s the best.”
Throughout the festive season, Shire Hall Café will be serving up a host of tasty treats, including their popular Christmas afternoon teas, which include a glass of fizz, finger sandwiches, scones, an assortment of Christmas-inspired cakes and pastries, finished off by dessert.
